The SEND panel advises the local authority on its decisions about Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
The Panel is a group of people that meet every week (during term time) to discuss EHCP requests or reviews and sometimes other matters that they can advise on. The panel includes SEN specialists, representatives from mainstream and special schools and health and social care services.
Once the Panel has made a recommendation about a case, the local authority will make a final decision. Decisions are based on the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
Following this a member of the SEN team will get in touch to let you know the decision. This usually happens a couple of working days after the panel meeting.
The process governing the SEND Panel is outlined in the Terms of Reference
