Bunker Night Walks at Moors Valley Country Park and Forest

Bunker Night Walks at Moors Valley Country Park and Forest logo

A rare chance for a night-time re-creation of the Decoy bunker situated within Moors Valley, which was a a WW2 bombing decoy.

Walk in the footsteps of the 4 man RAF crew for a night-time re-creation of the Decoy bunker situated within Moors Valley.

The bunker at Moors Valley was used during the Second World War to power and control lights, to mimic the nearby RAF airfields at Hurn and Ibsley, including a 1km flare path whose location has been identified. Discover from our walk leaders the role played by the bunker in the war effort by controlling the adjacent decoy airfield to deflect enemy bombings from real airfields, saving many lives.

Volunteers will be on-site to explain more about how the Decoy bunker was used and tell the story of its operation, as well as the scale and importance of Decoy and Deception Techniques to the war effort.

The walk will start at Potterne Park car park, BH21 6RS, where limited, free parking is available.

Please note – the path that you will be walking along will not be lit. Please wear footwear suitable for walking in the dark, and please bring a torch. Due to light, maximum group sizes, and timings, all walks will leave at the time specified on the booking so please make sure you’re at Potterne Park Car Park in good time to ensure you do not miss out.

Accessibility

Access inside the bunker for mobility scooters is not possible due to space restrictions. Access for wheelchairs is dependent on the size of the chair.

The bunker is a dark enclosed space, therefore torches will be required.

Hot drinks will be provided at the end of the walk. On booking please make us aware of any dietary requirements with regards to hot drinks.
