SEND Local Offer SEND
Description:

How do you communicate with the parent / carer whose child has SEND?

We have regular meetings with the parent / carers to keep up to date with the progress of their child, appointments that are due or are having. We have first-hand contact when parents drop off at the beginning of their child’s session and at the end. We have an open-door policy for all parents, carers and professionals.

How do you help children settle into your setting?

We have settling in periods when the child stays for an hour at a time over a period of 2 weeks, so they get used to being left by their parent and get use to the new surroundings and different people caring for them. We can offer home visits too as children are so different when in the home environment to being in a nursery setting.

What help and support does your setting offer to children with SEND as they move rooms or move on to school?

We have extra support and arrange extra visits to their new school well in advance of them starting. We ask to have Story books from the new school showing pictures to the child of their new surroundings so we can have conversations about this during session times. We link families who are attending the same school for play days with the children and offer activities to support their child within he home. We also now and next boards and visual aids to support transitions.

How do you find out how each child likes to learn?

We have information shared from the parents when signing there child up, sharing with us their interests, likes and dislikes inside and outside. We have a settling in period observing the child of how they like to learn and enhance this by doing activities and open-ended play

Inclusive practice / SEND training and expertise within this organisation

We have an open-door policy which allows all children to access the opportunities, to learn and develop at their own pace, with the support in place for children with SEN and disabilities. We have regular meetings and training opportunities to keep us up to date with the changes in SEND and our SENCO support.
