Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) is additional government funding to support the early education of eligible children if they are in receipt of one of the government’s funded early years entitlements, such as:
- Childcare funding for children from the age of 9 months from eligible working families
- Childcare funding for children aged 2 years receiving additional forms of support
- Childcare funding for all children aged 3 and 4 years (Universal Entitlement)
Your child’s early education provision: pre-school, nursery or childminder, could directly receive this funding, which is paid at a rate set by the government, for your child to support their individual learning, if they are eligible.
They will work with you to carefully consider the learning and development needs of your child and use this additional funding to support them with:
- personal, social and emotional development
- communication and language
- physical development
- literacy
- mathematics
- understanding the world
- expressive arts and design.

It also inspects and regulates services that care for children and young people. inspect your childcare setting they will check to see that the EYPP funding is helping your child learn, develop and get ready for school.
High quality early education can influence how well a child does at both primary and secondary school. Therefore, it is important to make the most of this additional funding.
Is my child eligible?
You can apply for if your child is receiving early education funding at a nursery, pre-school or childminding setting.
You must also get one of the following:
You may also get EYPP if your child is:
- currently being looked after by a local authority in England or Wales,
- or if your child has left care in England or Wales through:
- adoption
- special guardianship order
- a child arrangements order
