The BCP Council Short BreaksShort BreaksShort Breaks offer children with a disability the chance to spend time having fun, learning new skills and developing independence. Some of the planned activities give parents a break from the caring role and time to recharge their batteries. scheme provides activities for children and young people aged 0 to 25 years with special educational needs/disabilities, in a supportive and fun environment.

All sessions are supported by a high ratio of experienced and friendly staff who will ensure children and young people are happy and safe, so that parents can take time out in confidence. Children and young people are able to try out new things, have fun and make new friends.

A range of breaks are available to suit children and young people with different needs, so there really is something for everyone.

What activities are available on Short Breaks?

We have different activities to choose from such as arts and crafts, activity days (on the beach in the summer!), swimming, archery, gym and trampolining, watersports etc, there is something for everyone.

Term time activities

11 to 13 years old - The SENsational Juniors club will run on a Monday evening between 7pm and 9pm.

14 to 17 years - The SENsational Seniors club will run on a Tuesday evening between 7pm and 9pm.

18 to 25 years old - The SENsational Adults club will run on a Wednesday evening between 7pm and 9pm.

School holiday activities

A variety of fun activities are usually held during the school holidays, including gym and trampolining sessions for 0 to 8s and activities for children and young people aged 5 to 19. These are held at different youth centres and venues depending upon the activity.

Here you can find information on how to book, pay and cancel Short Break holiday activities.

During the holidays there will be Tuesday soft play sessions at Lemur Landings (Tower Park) (6.30 to 8.30pm). This is a family session which you can access with your brothers and sisters, however you must be accompanied by an adult. Contact shortbreaks@bcpcouncil.gov.uk for further information about obtaining a membership card for this session.

Funding for other organisations to provide activities

BCP Council Short Breaks also provides funding for other organisations to provide activities for children and young people. Examples of this are:
